Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this therapy?

This community does not offer psychotherapy, though the facilitator (Kaitlin) does draw upon training in psychotherapy as well as continuing education in various areas of psychology including gifted psychology. At this time, this online community is focused on community building as well as peer coaching / accountability and opportunities for collective dreaming / visioning / problem solving.

Please note that the design of this community is not conducive to delivering the type of support that a person in crisis needs most. If you're going through this, you're encouraged to connect with a mental health professional (here is a great resource for this) to address any acute challenges that you may be facing.

  • What happens during Community Calls?

The Community Calls are a twice-monthly opportunity to welcome new members, share anouncements, and dive into a facilitated conversation about a key theme of significance to our population. Themes rotate monthly and the calls are meant to give each participant a chance to speak freely and forge meaningful peer connections that can be nurtured on and offline.

Depending on the number of members on a given call, we may utilize breakout rooms to ensure that all have the chance to contribute to the conversation. Participants will also be invited to self-select into breakout groups for certain conversations (e.g., those around themes such as gender and sexuality) so all can derive maximum value from their time and conversation partners.

  • What is meant by "founding members"?

“Founding members” refers to the first members of this community platform, all of whom will receive the lowest pricing that will ever be available for the life of their membership. Prices will increase in conjunction with the public launch of the platform, though the cost of founding members' memberships will not increase.

The Black Brilliance Circle (BBC) program that ran June - December 2023 is a distinct though related offering and members of the new Our Wild Minds Community will get first dibs on seats in the next BBC cohort which will begin in Fall 2024. They will receive the same enrollment benefit for any other courses offered in the future.

  • What if I'm not Black?

This online community is currently serving Black-identified participants exclusively, though the hope is to expand these offerings to encompass additional communities of color in the future. Individuals who identify as both Black and multiracial/mixed-race are welcome to participate now.

If you are not Black but are interested in getting involved in this community in the future, please let us know by filling out this form.  Please also let us know if you are aware of any practitioners (e.g., mental health professionals, coaches, etc) from other communities of color who could help us build our capacity.

  • What if I'm not sure I'm gifted or don't like that word?

You might consider checking out this essay on the thorniness of the label “gifted," especially in the context of the racist/eugenicist history that shaped it. In short, the author (Kaitlin) finds giftedness useful as a concept despite all of the baggage and complexity surrounding it and explains why in detail.  Consider whether you see yourself reflected in this phenomenon and, if so, consider joining to feel things out!
